It would be difficult to talk about
all the wild creatures which inhabit the desert. For example, there's the
sand cat and the sand lynx.
Many different birds migrate across the
desert skies, but there are also some which live there year round: the
magpie, the desert sparrow, the eagle-owl, the desert crow... But the Indian
Mayna bird is by far the most beloved of all.
The Mayna belongs to the swallow family.
It's an accomplished singer, and it can be trained to talk.
They say there was a certain teahouse owner
named Ibragim who kept a Mayna bird in his establishment. The bird would
greet the visitors by saying: "Ibragim, you have a visitor." When the guest
was preparing to depart, the bird would remind its master:
"Ibragim, collect your money!"
